Home Lipofilling: natural breast augmentation

Find out why Clinic BeauCare does not perform lipofilling (or natural breast augmentation).

In addition to breast augmentation with implants, there is a technique known as ‘natural breast augmentation’ or breast lipofilling.

This method utilizes the patient’s own fat, offering the advantage of using natural tissue without implants. However, there are constraints and drawbacks associated with breast augmentation by lipofilling.

For reasons detailed on this page, Clinic BeauCare does not offer ‘natural’ breast augmentation through lipofilling, but instead prefers breast implants or prostheses.

What is lipofilling?

Lipofilling is a surgical procedure that enhances breast volume by utilizing the patient’s own fat.

This technique is known for its ability to naturally reshape and enhance various areas, including the breasts, buttocks, or face, using the patient’s own tissue.

Why do we talk about natural breast augmentation?

Lipofilling for breast augmentation utilizes the patient’s own fat to enhance breast volume, which is why it’s referred to as ‘natural’ breast augmentation.

Fat is typically harvested via liposuction from areas like the abdomen or thighs and then transferred to the breasts.

This technique is valued for its natural appearance and minimal risk of allergic reactions or rejection, as it utilizes the patient’s own tissue.

Why doesn’t Clinic BeauCare perform lipofilling?

Initially, breast augmentation using lipofilling shows promise but often falls short of achieving our patients’ desired outcomes in a single procedure.

Typically, an increase of one cup size is feasible, with a maximum potential gain of up to one-and-a-half sizes per session.

It’s important to note that costs may escalate with multiple procedures, and there’s no guarantee of final results due to varying rates of fat absorption among individuals.

A temporary method

Natural breast augmentation using lipofilling can increase breast size by approximately one cup, for example, from an A cup to a B cup. In some cases, up to one and a half additional cup sizes can be achieved through lipofilling, but no more.

However, achieving the desired size may require multiple procedures, which can prolong the process and result in additional costs for the patient.

Results absorbed within 3 months

It’s important to understand that the natural fat injected during lipofilling may undergo partial resorption by the body in the months following the procedure. This often necessitates touch-up procedures to sustain the desired results.

Typically, between 30% to 50% of the fat used for lipofilling breast augmentation is naturally reabsorbed by the body. This process generally occurs within 6 weeks to 3 months after the initial procedure.

Due to this natural absorption, additional procedures may be required to maintain an increased cup size.

Increased risks with repeated interventions

Firstly, it’s important to recognize that every surgical procedure carries inherent risks. At Clinic BeauCare, we prioritize techniques that minimize operating room time.

In certain instances, the reabsorption of fat cells reintroduced via lipofilling can result in the formation of calcium crystals and calcifications within the breast. These calcifications are benign and detectable on mammograms, but they may raise concerns resembling those of a breast tumor.

For the reasons mentioned above, at Clinique BeauCare, we prefer breast implants or prostheses over breast augmentation with lipofilling.

Advantages of breast implants

Unlike lipofilling, where the amount of fat absorption can vary widely among individuals, breast implants provide stable and enduring augmentation.

Advancements in technology have led to the creation of safer, longer-lasting implants, offering patients reassurance regarding the stability and dependability of their breast enhancement.

Inserting implants is a straightforward and efficient surgical procedure, allowing precise control over breast volume and shape. This ensures predictable and customized outcomes for each patient.
